We accept all who walk in our door, up to 200 people a day, most days. We are always ready to lend a hand, to listen and to serve without judgment.
We know the people we serve have dignity – and pride. We honor them, and we are honored to serve them. If they want to talk, we listen.
We are proud to know that people consider us a part of their extended families. The kitchen is a family whose members watch out for one another.
We’d like to know a day will come when there would be no need for us. Until that day, we do what we feel called to do, and that is to feed the hungry.
The late Rev. Harvey Savage, Sr., established the kitchen in 1969 in response to the tremendous need he saw in his community. Located in Toledo’s central city, the kitchen feeds more than 200 people each day, including school children and the elderly.
Learn MoreWe're fortunate there are many people eager to share their feelings about the Kitchen with us -- and with you.
My favorite kitchen events are the holiday meals. Though every day is a great day at the kitchen, to see and be part of the fellowship, friendship and service during the holidays is an amazing feeling. To know what the kitchen has meant to so many in the area for so many years and give my time to help that continue is indescribable. The opportunity to connect with residents and community partners, witness the care and passion of the staff, and be part of something so vital to the surrounding neighborhood and larger community has been an honor and a wonderful way to give back.
